I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY

My third great grandfather was atrociously murdered on 30th April 1858, at Mount Blackwood, Victoria. When questioned, the accused, John Kelly, said, in his very words, “I have nothing to say”.

There are no images of my murdered ancestor. Consequently, I have relied on archival records which are the most useful and remarkable sources that we have for navigating and understanding our history. Without such records much of our past would remain completely unknown.

Constructing my own memories based on family folktales, research, and visits to Blackwood, I have sourced and created images, public and archival records, and text, to visually communicate and interpret this narrative.
